Sleepy Eye Brewery

On our way home from a long weekend, we stopped at Sleepy Eye Brewery. This small town movie theater was turned into a coffee shop on one side of the building and a brewery on the other. It is a must see!

Cubano Pizza Hut the spot. Classic Cuban sandwich fixings on a thin crust pizza. Who would have thought that mustard, pickles, ham, and pork on a pizza would be so good?!? Honestly, as I type this a day later, I’m craving this pizza. It was just what we needed for an afternoon pick me up. We had the Cosmo seltzer and a 1919 root beer to top it off.

JJ’s Poke

This is one of my favorites. Simple. Easy. Fast. Fresh.
Choose the toppings you like or one of their pre-selected bowls.

My favorites are salmon, ahi tuna, cucumber, crab salad, red cabbage, scallions, avocado, masago, furikake, topped with garlic soy yuzo and spicy mayo.

Blue Bricks

Service was less than adequate. Although polite, the waitress was not a good advocate for the food at the restaurant and discouraged several items on the menu.

Spicy deep fried pickles were just breaded pickles, nothing special. However the Southwest Corn Kickers with the Sundried Tomato Dip was delicious. The cute presentation started us out with a great taste.
Cheeseburger with tomato and seasoned fries. They ran out of hamburger pickles so just a pickle on the side. The classic burger and fries were satisfying and would order again. Fries were lightly seasoned with Lowery’s seasoning and were fried just the right amount.
The Roadhouse sounded delicious. Sliced steak with peppers, onions, mushrooms, and cheese on a toasted hoagie bun with a side of au ju. Although it did have good flavor, the steak was tough to eat within the sandwich. It didn’t pull apart easily and made it hard to take a bite without pulling a whole piece of steak out of the sandwich with each bite. Seasoned fries were a nice side to the meal. Would not order again but would make at home.
The King melt was delicious. The bacon was a little too greasy but it didn’t take away from the sandwich. Turkey breast, cheese, onion, tomato, bacon, coleslaw, on an onion Parmesan bread. It came with a side of guacamole which added good flavor.
The New Yorker was flavorful but the toasted hoagie was entirely too big. Grilled pastrami, onions and provolone cheese in hoagie with lettuce and tomato.
The soup (that we never got the name of) wasn’t great but not gross like the waitress said. It was a cream based vegetable soup but the curry spicing definitely missed the mark. Disappointing but I don’t think the waitress should have been quite so negative.

MN Wing Kings

The Kings bowl was not so much a bowl but delicious nonetheless. Mashed potatoes topped with a brown gravy, french fries, boneless wings, bacon, and cheddar cheese surrounded by homemade garlic bread. It was so good but extremely filling! I ate five bites maybe and had to eat all the bread (it was sooo good) but got a box to take home the rest.
Avocado BLT with a side of mac & cheese.
Brisket sticks were the appetizer choice tonight. Beef brisket and pepper jack cheese wrapped in an egg roll wrapper and deep fried. Topped with a drizzle of BBQ sauce and diced green onions. Served with a side of marinara sauce. The sticks themselves were lacking in something the flavors didn’t quite melt together well but they were OK the marinara sauce was weird as the dipping sauce it did not go with the brisket or the cheese or the egg roll wrapper or the barbecue sauce.

Crown Peach Beach was my drink of choice tonight. Crown Peach, pineapple juice, and grenadine. Good but very sweet.

Extra Innings of St Peter

Mac & Cheese Pizza: homemade famous crust topped with white sauce, macaroni noodles, mozzarella, provolone, and cheddar cheese. With their special seasonings it is delicious! I will keep coming back for this one! I love the extra cheesy taste.  Their homemade, Panino crust is deliciously flavorful.

The fish and crisps were a Lenten Friday special. For the crisps I chose Uglies brand bbq chips. They were lightly salted and nice side. The fish was lightly breaded and oven baked. It did come out under done but they ran it through the oven again quick and it was nice a crispy! It was nice to have breaded fish that wasn’t deep fried and greasy. The homemade tartar sauce was a great addition that rounded out the meal. For someone who doesn’t like tartar sauce, I was surprised to find that I really liked it!

Staff was polite and environment clean. It’s Twins themed restaurant in a historical main street building. It is tastefully decorated with twins memorabilia but not overly done.

Twisted Waffles

For Midwestern girls, the idea of waffles and fried chicken seemed strange. However, we absolutely loved the combination, especially with the spiced sauce. Thanks to our waitress, we tried her recommendation and had a great experience. Definitely go back! The fruit was fresh. The chicken was delicious. The latte was great. And full windows all the way around the seating area gave it a large open feel.

Classic jazz on a weeknight

Looking for some classic jazz on a weeknight, we found Three Muses to be a good spot. The service was outstanding. Although we looked at the menu, we didn’t order anything but drinks. Drinks were good, but nothing special… Just a good drink.

We did venture next door to find a good dancefloor, but not as a classic jazz feel and the drinks were awful.

Great service! Thanks Matthew for your attentiveness.

Superior Seafood and Oyster Bar

Char-Grilled Oysters. Delicious! Grilled oysters with garlic, herbs, butter and parmesan and Romano cheeses. Would definitely order again.

Fresh French bread! Soft and delicious like it had just come out of the oven. For drinks, we enjoyed a Mint Julep and a Hendrick’s Orleans.

Crawfish Beignets. Don’t bother. Greasy, flavorless crab in a dough with a lovely sauce.

Nice little side salad. Topped with olives, tomato, goat cheese, and a very light home-made style vinaigrette. Light and refreshing, but could use more tomato or a crouton.

Shrimp Pesto Risotto – Good, but nothing special. Wouldn’t rush to order again.

Sautéed Louisiana shrimp in a house made pesto and confit tomato risotto, topped with shaved Parmesan cheese.

Redfish St Roch. Pan seared Redfish, served over sweet potato mash and brussel sprouts braised in house-cut bacon, finished with brown butter beurre blanc. Delicious! The sauce brings it all together. Hands down would order again!

Creme brulee always a favorite. The strawberries were super sweet. The blueberries were good. However, the custard was a little too eggy and the brulee was overly burnt and seemed like it was reburnt again. A legendary favorite of ours and almost a guarantee has dropped a star for the dessert category.

Tried the Bourbon flight. All three were a bit sharp but we ordered a Sprite chaser and that made each one palatable.
